The early years of a child’s life are critical for brain development, with 90% occurring before the age of five. Recognizing this, Early Learning Corpsan AmeriCorps tutoring program, is actively seeking tutors to support preschool students in Rochester.
This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance early childhood education. Early Learning Corps has already made a significant impact in Poughkeepsiewhere it was launched in 2026. Since then, the program has assisted over 850 children in preparing for kindergarten. Impressively, 90% of students showed growth in literacy skills, and 88% improved in numeracy during the last school year.
Expanding to Rochester
Building on its success in Poughkeepsie, Early Learning Corps expanded to Rochester this past January. The program initially started with 12 tutors serving 180 children. Now, the organization is looking to expand its reach by recruiting an additional 45 tutors to begin serving in September.
Tutors are required to serve 1525or 32 hours per week during school hours. In return, they receive a bi-weekly paycheck and up to $3,697 for tuition or student loans. No prior experience is necessary as the program provides all the necessary training to ensure both tutors and students succeed.
