In a display of remarkable resilience, Klaw Rey, a student from Da Vinci High School in Buffalo, made an unforgettable appearance at his graduation ceremony on a Thursday evening in June 2026. More than a year and a half after a tragic accident that dramatically altered his life, Rey’s presence on stage to accept his diploma served as a powerful testament to his unwavering determination.

The journey to this momentous occasion began in, when Rey was struck by a city garbage truck on his way to school. The accident resulted in catastrophic injuries, including the amputation of one leg at the hip and paralysis from the waist down. Since then, Rey has undergone more than 20 surgeries and has been receiving continuous care at Erie County Medical Center and its Terrace View Long Term Care facility.

The Road to Recovery and Graduation

Despite the immense physical challenges he faced, Rey remained committed to his education. His dedication paid off when he surprised his classmates by appearing on stage during the graduation ceremony. The audience erupted in applause as Rey, a member of the Class of 2026 received his diploma.
