The award, given by the New York Conference of Italian American State Legislators, recognized Fernandez’s exceptional commitment to both her studies and her community.

Emma Fernandez, a recent graduate of St. Francis Preparatory School received the Conte Memorial Academic Scholarship worth $3,000. This prestigious award is given annually by the New York Conference of Italian American State Legislators to students who demonstrate outstanding academic performance and a commitment to community service.
Fernandez’s dedication to her community is evident through her extensive volunteer work. She has accumulated over 100 hours of service at Jamaica Hospital in Ozone Park and participated in various Lions Club events, including trunk-or-treats and Christmas Tree Lighting ceremonies. Her efforts reflect a deep sense of responsibility and a desire to make a positive impact on those around her.
A Bright Future in Nursing
Fernandez’s academic achievements and community involvement have paved the way for her future career. She plans to attend New York University (NYU) to study nursing, with the goal of becoming a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA). CRNAs play a crucial role in the medical field, specializing in the administration of anesthesia and other medications such as sedatives.

The New York Conference of Italian American State Legislators
The New York Conference of Italian American State Legislators is a bipartisan organization comprised of state Senate and Assembly members. Each year, the conference awards four $3,000 scholarships to high school seniors and college students. To be eligible, applicants must reside in a district represented by an Italian-American Conference member or associate member, such as Senator Addabbo.
The conference offers two types of scholarships: the Conte Memorial Academic Scholarship and the Marchi Memorial Athletic Scholarship. Applicants must be New York residents, maintain an 85% GPA or higher and demonstrate a need for financial assistance. For the Marchi Memorial Athletic Scholarship, applicants must also show a strong record in athletics.
