The search for Ryan Courtien the former Dover Town Supervisor and Chairman of the Dover Planning Board came to a close on Friday evening when he was found at the Harlem Valley-Wingdale Metro-North train station. The 49-year-old had been missing since Sunday, July 12, sparking a large-scale search effort that involved multiple police agencies, helicopters, drones, and K9 units.
The search, which began after Courtien left his house to do yardwork around 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, was called off by the State police on Wednesday, July 15. However, the search effort continued as state BCI investigators worked to track down leads.
The Search Effort and Breakthrough
On Friday afternoon, the state police announced a significant breakthrough. Surveillance photos from Grand Central Terminal in New york city showed Courtien exiting a Metro-North Train and leaving the terminal onto Madison Avenue. He was still wearing the same khaki pants and black shirt he had been wearing in Dover.
This breakthrough led to a call to the New York State Police about Courtien’s whereabouts. A deputy from the Dutchess county Sheriff’s Office who was in the area, responded to the call and located Courtien near a pull-off, just south of the station. The deputy requested an ambulance for an EMS evaluation and Courtien was later turned over to the state police.
